récipient
(ré-si-pi-an) s. m.
   Vase adapté à la cornue ou à l'alambic, pour recevoir les gaz qui s'échappent, ou les liquides qu'on distille.
   Récipient florentin, récipient qu'on emploie pour la distillation des essences plus légères que l'eau.
   Cloche de verre qu'on place sur le plateau d'une machine pneumatique, et où l'on renferme les corps que l'on veut mettre dans le vide.
   XVIe s.
   Le recipiant ou contenant d'un alambic., -L, 'on pourra bien faire de verre le recipiant (qu'aucuns appellent aussi corps), O. DE SERRES 889.
   Lat. recipientem, recevant, participe présent de recipere, recevoir (voy. recevoir).

   Il se dit, dans le langage général, de tout vase destiné à recevoir un liquide.
