1°   Qui a plus de poids qu'un autre ; qui est supérieur par la considération.
•   Sans le voyage de Vasco de Gama, Venise devenait la puissance prépondérante de l'Europe, VOLT. Moeurs, 141.
   Homme prépondérant, homme supérieur par son crédit, son autorité, etc.
   Voix prépondérante, dans une élection, celle qui, dans le cas d'égalité, détermine les suffrages pour ou contre, en se joignant à l'un ou à l'autre parti.
•   Le duc d'Orléans, à la tête de ce conseil, ne devait avoir que la voix prépondérante, VOLT. Hist. parl. 59.
2°   Il se dit aussi des choses.
