1°   Action d'évaluer, d'apprécier. Suivant l'estimation qui en sera faite par des experts.
•   .... Mettre le prix et l'estimation à chaque chose, BALZ. 7e disc. sur la cour..
•   Il faut [pour être autorisé à tuer] que la chose soit de grand prix au jugement d'un homme prudent ; ce n'est rien dire, mon père ; où ira-t-on chercher un homme prudent pour faire cette estimation ?, PASC. Prov. 7.
   Appréciation qu'on fait en mer du chemin parcouru, de la position du navire, etc.
•   Ignore-t-on l'imperfection des méthodes par lesquelles on mesure le chemin qu'a fait un vaisseau, et on juge du lieu où il est ; et les estimations nautiques ne sont-elles pas sujettes à bien des erreurs ?, CONDIL. Art de rais. v, 8.
Aujourd'hui on dit plutôt estime.
2°   Jugement par lequel on attache du prix.
