tin
(tin) s. m.
   Terme de marine. Morceau de bois de peu de longueur, sorte de billot employé en le mettant à plat pour servir de support à une pièce de construction que l'on travaille, ou, spécialement, à la quille d'un navire en construction, afin de l'exhausser au-dessus de sa cale. Après que le vaisseau est bâti ou radoubé, ils laissent entrer la marée qui l'enlève de dessus les tins et le met à flot, Corresp. de Colbert, t. III, 2, p. 342.
   Pièce de bois qui soutient les tonneaux dans une cave.
   Lat. tignum, pièce de charpente, poutre, solive. à tig-num comparez le grec, charpentier.
