(bu-té) v. a.
   Terme de jardinage. Ameublir la terre en pyramide autour du pied d'une plante. Butter des artichauts.
   [Après avoir planté les grands arbres] il est bon de les trépigner et même de les butter, pour les assurer contre l'impétuosité du vent, LAQUINTINYE Jardins, I, 3, 8.
   Terme d'agriculture. Butter des terres, faire de petites buttes pour l'écoulement des eaux.
   En parlant du cheval, heurter avec les pieds, en marchant, les corps saillants qui se trouvent sur son chemin. Cheval sujet à butter.
   En général, achopper. Ce vieillard butta contre une pierre et tomba.
   On écrit aussi buter.
   Autre forme de bouter, pousser, heurter.
