émancipation
(é-man-si-pa-sion ; en vers, de six syllabes) s. f.
1°   Terme de jurisprudence. Droit accordé à un mineur de faire les actes d'administration.
   État de celui qui, dégagé de toute tutelle, peut administrer librement ses biens. L'émancipation ne dispense pas le mineur d'avoir un curateur.
   En droit romain, acte par lequel le fils de famille était affranchi de la puissance paternelle.
   En termes ecclésiastiques, situation des religieux promus à une dignité qui les affranchissait de l'obéissance due à leurs supérieurs. Situation des monastères exemptés par le pape de la juridiction de l'ordinaire.
2°   Par extension, affranchissement. L'émancipation des esclaves. L'émancipation des masses populaires.
