   Flûte de Pan, flûte à sept tuyaux.
   On a dit aussi syrinx.
   Syrinx parle et respire aux lèvres du berger, A. CHÉNIER éd. FOUQUIÈRES, Épigr. p. 108.
   Nom donné par les Grecs aux plus magnifiques des sépultures royales de Thèbes, en Égypte, celles de Biban-el-Molouk.
   Ces tombes royales, ou syringes, selon l'expression des anciens, étaient encore au nombre d'environ quarante au temps de Strabon, LETRONNE Instit. Mém. Acad. inscr. t. IX, p. 353.
   On trouve aussi syringue.
   Du grec, tuyau. Sépultures ainsi dites parce qu'elles étaient creusées dans le roc comme les tuyaux de la flûte de Pan.
