(ru-bi-di-om') s. m.
Nom d'un nouveau métal découvert par MM. Bunsen et Kirchhoff, et donnant, dans le spectre, deux raies rouges.
   Le corps ainsi découvert [par l'analyse spectrale].... fut nommé rubidium, pour rappeler les belles raies rouges que contient son spectre, et qui ont servi à le faire connaître, DELAUNAY Ann. du Bur. des longit. 1869, p. 515.
   Lat. rubidus, rouge brun.
