(ri-no-sé-ros') s. m.
1°   Grand quadrupède sauvage portant une ou deux cornes sur le nez, genre de l'ordre des pachydermes.
•   Après l'éléphant, le rhinocéros est le plus puissant des animaux quadrupèdes, BUFF. Quadrup. t. IV, p. 317.
•   Le rhinocéros qui arriva à Londres en 1739, avait été envoyé de Bengale ; quoique très jeune, puisqu'il n'avait que deux ans, les frais de sa nourriture et de son voyage montaient à près de mille livres sterling, BUFF. ib. t. IV, p. 334.
•   Ils [les anciens] connaissaient les rhinocéros à deux cornes, que l'Europe moderne n'a point vus vivants, CUVIER Révolutions, p. 72.
2°   Au rhinocéros, sorte de coiffure des petits-maîtres, dans le XVIIIe siècle.
