Oiseau de passage qui est une espèce d'oie sauvage.

   Bas-lat. bernaca, barnaces, bernicla ; angl. barnacle ; d'un mot irlandais. Oie barnacle, ainsi dite parce qu'une opinion populaire la faisait naître des barnacles ou bernicles, coquillages attachés aux végétaux du bord de la mer, où cet oiseau place son nid. Voy. bernacle.

2°   Nom, sur les côtes du Morbihan, d'une sorte de mollusque, l'anatife.
•   Quelques-uns, comme le taret, se nourrissent au détriment de la pièce de bois à laquelle ils se fixent ; d'autres, comme la barnache, se bornent à lui demander un point d'appui ; bien des fois, j'ai vu des bouteilles chargées de barnaches, qui accusaient un long séjour dans l'eau, GOUEZEL les Oiseaux de mer, Nantes, 1875, p. 20.
