Terme didactique. Émission de rayons lumineux. L'humidité de air, la radiation solaire, les phénomènes météoriques... , FLAMMARION, Feuilleton du Siècle (11 juin 1867).
   Il se dit aussi de l'émission du calorique. La radiation du calorique.
   Lat. radiationem, action de rayonner, de radiare, rayonner.

(ra-di-a-sion ; en vers, de cinq syllabes) s. f.
1°   Action de rayer, de biffer un article d'un compte, un nom d'une liste, une partie d'un écrit. Cet article est sujet à radiation. On ordonna la radiation des injures contenues dans ce mémoire. Après la condamnation qu'il avait subie, le corps auquel il appartenait prononça sa radiation. Il était inscrit sur la liste des imposés ; il a obtenu sa radiation.
   Particulièrement. Raie que l'on passe sur un article de compte. On a fait plusieurs radiations sur ses comptes.
2°   Suppression, anéantissement d'une inscription hypothécaire.
•   Ceux qui requièrent la radiation déposent au bureau du conservateur l'expédition de l'acte authentique portant consentement, ou celle du jugement, Code Nap. art. 2158.
   Radiation vient de la forme latine barbare radiare, qui s'est introduite au XVIe siècle comme traduction du français rayer.
