   XVIe s.
•   Les pastenades et carrotes ne different par-entre-elles presque en autre chose qu'en la couleur ; celle de l'une estant rouge et l'autre blanche.... à Paris, où sans distinction l'on appelle ces racines pastenades et carrotes, O. DE SERRES 529.
•   Une espece de pastenade est la betterave, O. DE SERRES 530.
   Génev. patenaille (en languedoc, pastenailles, dit O. DE SERRES, 529). Le latin a pastinaca ; mais pastinaca peut-il donner pastenade ? D'ailleurs le sens ancien de pastenade est carotte ; il est donc plus probable que c'est un dérivé de pastinare, fouir, houer.
