1°   Connaissance (sens primitif qui n'existe plus).
2°   Extrait raisonné, compte rendu succinct.
•   Cet homme [Photius] nous a conservé, dans sa Bibliothèque, des notices d'un grand nombre d'ouvrages qui n'existent plus, DIDER. Op. des anc. philos (Jésus-Christ)..
   S. f. pl. Se dit des documents et tableaux de statistique ou de toute autre nature que les parquets sont tenus de fournir périodiquement.
3°   Morceau écrit sur la vie de quelque homme célèbre. Notice académique. Notice historique. Notice biographique.
   Notice nécrologique, celle qui a pour sujet un personnage mort depuis peu de temps.
4°   En librairie, la liste imprimée des livres d'un cabinet, quand elle n'est pas assez étendue pour former un catalogue.
•   On vient de distribuer la notice des livres du cabinet de monsieur un tel, Dict. de l'Académie.
5°   Terme d'antiquité. Titre de quelques livres anciens donnant une connaissance détaillée des charges, des dignités, des lieux, des chemins d'un pays. La Notice des Gaules.
   Notice de l'Empire, titre d'un ouvrage géographique, publié après Constantin.
   XIVe s.
•   Selon qu'il vint à la notice du suppliant, DU CANGE notinus..
   XVIe s.
