1°   Action d'inspecter quelque chose, de l'examiner. à la première inspection, on connaît que cet acte est faux. Faire l'inspection des armes.
•   Lorsque quelqu'un dit : je pense, donc je suis, il ne conclut pas son existence de sa pensée comme par la force de quelque syllogisme, mais comme une chose connue de soi ; il la voit par une simple inspection de l'esprit, PASC. Rép. aux 2es object. 22.
•   Les Arabes, habitant sous des tentes, étant continuellement à portée d'observer les astres, furent peut-être les premiers qui réglèrent leurs années par l'inspection du ciel, VOLT. Dict. phil. Job..
2°   La fonction d'examiner quelque chose, de le surveiller. Inspection des écoles. Inspection d'académie.
