1°   Terme de physique. Qui manque de cohérence. Les parties de l'eau sont incohérentes ; d'où la fluidité.
   Terme de géologie. Couches incohérentes, couches dont les substances constituantes n'ont pas de cohésion entre elles.
2°   Fig. Il se dit des idées, des mots ou des phrases qui ne se suivent pas, qui ne forment pas un tout, un ensemble bien joint.
