(ik ; mais, bien que l'h ne soit pas aspirée, on n'élide pas l'e muet de l'article) s. m.
Terme familier. Le noeud ou la principale difficulté d'une affaire. Voilà le hic.
•   Ils ont connu mon innocence, ils m'ont remis en liberté : oui, mais répliqua-t-il, vous ont-ils restitué vos effets ? c'est là le hic, LE SAGE Est. Gonz. ch. 44.
   Lat. hic, ici, c'est-à-dire hic est quaestio, là est la question. Dans l'ancien français on s'est servi de hic, hec pour dire l'homme et la femme :
•   La gramaire hic à hec accouple, Mais nature mal dit la cople, Quant hic et hic joignent ensemble [il s'agit de sodomie], Hist. de Ste-Leoc. f° 30, dans LACURNE.
