Sorte de grands ciseaux pour tondre les draps, pour couper les étoffes et les tailler, pour couper les tôles, le laiton, le fer-blanc. Une paire de forces.
   Terme de manége. Faire les forces, se dit d'un cheval qui ouvre beaucoup la bouche au lieu de se ramener quand on lui tire la bride.
   XIIe s.

   XIVe s.

   Wall. efoihez ; Hainaut, éforches ; provenç. force, forsa ; du latin forfices, ciseaux. Forces est au pluriel comme ciseaux, à cause des deux branches.
