choléra-morbus ou simplement choléra
(ko-lé-ra-mor-bus') s. m.
   Terme de médecine.
1°   Maladie endémique et sporadique caractérisée par des évacuations abondantes du haut et du bas, une grande faiblesse et du refroidissement.
2°   Maladie épidémique, dite aussi choléra asiatique, née dans l'Inde en 1817, offrant des symptômes analogues à ceux du choléra endémique, mais avec beaucoup plus d'intensité, et caractérisée par une matière semblable à de l'eau de riz qui est dans les selles.
   En grec, choléra, et proprement gouttière (la maladie ayant été ainsi nommée, à cause que les matières fluent comme par une gouttière), et le latin morbus, maladie (voy. morbide). Voy. cholérique à l'étymologie.
