Nom, en haute Normandie, Seine-Inférieure, de l'amorce pour les hameçons.
   Le même que boitte. à boitte, ce mot est rattaché au bas-breton boued, nourriture, et aussi appât, amorce ; mais M. Baudry rattache baite à l'angl. bait, amorce, qui, lui-même, semble se rattacher à l'angl. bit, morceau, bouchée ; comp. l'allem. beiszen, mordre.
